Foundry Distilling, Surly Brewing Debut The Axe Man Whiskey

Foundry Distilling, known for whiskeys produced from its Brewer Distiller Alliance of nationally recognized breweries, has teamed up once again with Surly Brewing out of Minnesota on a new whiskey. Known as Axe Man American Malt Whiskey, it heralds from the brewery’s Axe Man IPA.

The new Axe Man American Malt Whiskey, according to those behind it, is distilled from the wort of Surly’s Axe Man IPA beer into an American single malt whiskey said to have “every ounce of the aromatic nature as its beer counterpart.” Surly brought the beer’s wort to Foundry Distilling, where it was fermented, distilled, and aged for 28 months in new 30-gallon American Oak barrels to produce the expression. In total, the distillery will make 1,000 cases in a limited run.

“We are very proud of this whiskey release in partnership with Surly Brewing Company,” said Scott Bush, owner of Foundry Distilling Company, in a prepared statement. “Axe Man Whiskey, at 96 proof, is an incredibly unique and wonderful whiskey. It is a one-time release that you won’t want to miss.”
