Fettercairn Introduces Latest 16-Year Limited Edition For 2022

Scotland’s Fettercairn Distillery recently unveiled the latest release of its 16 Year Old Single Malt Whisky.

First launched in 2020 as a series of limited-edition annual releases of 16-year-old single malt whisky, each has its own distinct recipe.

A statement from Fettercairn notes that the 2022 release offers a taste of the Aberdeenshire distillery’s tropical house style, while exploring the influence of a unique finish for the whisky maker.

The distiller explained that the Fettercairn single malt’s tropical character is accentuated with notes of exotic fruits and syruped figs, underpinned by roasted coffee.

This 16 Year Old is finished in a trio of casks, led by maturation in first-fill Oloroso sherry casks, before further maturation in first-fill Pedro Ximénez sherry casks, and a final finish in ex-bourbon barrels.

After all of its maturation, the distiller’s notes show that the 16 Year Old Single Malt mixes the exotic fruity aromas in the form of ripe guava with patisserie spices, cocoa and natural vanilla to create layers of flavor.

The new 16 Year Old comes bottled at 46.4% ABV, is natural in color and is non-chill filtered.

Master Whisky Maker Gregg Glass said that in creating this recipe, selecting these casks, he set out to further explore the boundaries of what Fettercairn can achieve in their quest for distinction while continuing to deliver on the tropical house character that defines the brand.

“Once again, the result is a very special, one-off creation that will never be repeated,” he said. “The challenge was to fine tune the balance of cask influence that would deliver the unique profile I was looking for. A unique drinking experience, which, with accentuated flavor characteristics, define Fettercairn.”

The Fettercairn 16 Year Old 2022 release is available across Europe including France, UK, the Netherlands, Germany, Belgium, extending to Global Travel Retail and key Asia markets into 2023

It has a suggested retail price of £72, with the Global Travel edition coming in a 1L format with a suggested price of £82.50.
